HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2015) Sophomore
Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J./Edison) made five saves as the Centenary College women's soccer team was blanked by the Rangers of Drew University, 3-0, in the finale of the 2015 Cyclone Kickoff Classic.
Emma Campbell assisted on two goals and took a game-high five shots for the Rangers who improve to 2-1. Freshman
Amanda Macarro (Old Tappan, N.J. / Northern Valley Old Tappan) took a team high three shots for the Cyclones who fall to 1-2.
Drew dominated much of the first half, as freshman
Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) was the only Centenary player to record a shot on goal. Marold made the Rangers work for their first goal as she denied them three different times in the first 35 minutes.
Drew finally broke the scoreless tie in the 37th minute as Meghan McDermott scored off a feed from Caroline Kelly. McDermott's goal would remain the difference as the horn sounded for halftime.
In the second stanza, Benoit, Macarro and senior
Lorraine Dedrick (Trumbull, Conn. / Trumbull) all had opportunities at the net but failed to connect on any of them. Drew pulled away by scoring goals in the 49th and 55th minute, respectively.
The Rangers outshot the Cyclones 15-7, including 8-4 on shots on goal.
Head Coach
Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 10th, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 3:00 p.m.
