Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Marin's Four Points Helps Men's Soccer Earn First Victory of the Season

FROSTBURG, Md. (Sept. 6, 2015) Junior Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) totaled four points on two assists and one goal that propelled the Centenary College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Juanita College on the campus of Frostburg State University this afternoon.

Junior Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) and freshman Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) both scored for the Cyclones who improve to 1-2 overall. Chandler Steffen scored the lone goal for the Eagles who fall to 1-1-1 overall.

Senior Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) and Eagles net minder James Johnson proved to be the difference in the opening 35 minutes, as Johnson denied Centenary three times and Goleman denied Juanita twice.

The Cyclones finally broke the scoreless tie in the 37th minute as Brix found the back of the net off a corner kick assist from Marin.

The Eagles responded less than two minutes later as Steffen scored off an assist from Charlie Jones. Centenary answered back as Marin connected with Weiss for his second assist of the afternoon. That goal carried the Cyclones into halftime with the 2-1 advantage.

In the second half, Marin would put the game out of reach for the Eagles as he netted his first goal of the season in the 49th minute. Juniata did make one last ditch effort, as they took three shots within a two minute span, but all their attempts pulled wide of the net.

The Cyclones edged the Eagles in shots 14-12, including 8-to-4 on shots on goal.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12th, as they will travel to Scranton, Pa. to take on the Royals of the University of Scranton at 3:30 p.m.
