Na'imah Spells (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) recorded 42 digs as the Centenary College volleyball team were swept by both the Nittany Lions of Penn. St. Abington and the Valiants of Manhattanville College this afternoon.
PSU-Abington 3, Centenary 0In the first game of a doubleheader for the Cyclones, they were defeated by Penn State Abington in three sets, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-15, to bring their record to 0-3 on the season. Spells was a dig machine for the Cyclones as she totaled 25 digs in the three sets, which led all other players by at least 15. Senior
Vanessa McKellar (Annadale, N.J./North Hunterdon) also had a solid game by finishing second in kills with seven, while junior
Jamie Bierbaum (Hackettstown, N.J/Hackettstown) collected five for the Cyclones. Freshman
Zoey Woody (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) led all players with 13 assists, while Wood and teammate
Giani Montalvo (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) each had one block in the match. Sam Amaro led Penn State, as she had a game-high nine kills along with a team-high 10 digs. Shannon Bellfield was a force at the net for Penn State as she collected five blocks in the victory.
Manhattanville 3, Centenary 0 The Cyclones dropped to 0-4 on the season, as they were defeated in their second match of the day in three sets by Manhattanville, 25-9, 25-8, and 25-14. Spells collected a game-high 17 digs to go along with one kill in the match. McKellar and Bierbaum each had three kills in the match, as well as two service aces apiece. Wood led the Cyclones in assists with four, while also finishing second on the team with six digs. Alissa Primavera led Manhattanville's attack, as she provided eight kills in the victory. Megan Quinabo totaled 15 assists in the match, while teammate Christina Nardi led her team in digs with 15.

Kelsey Walter and the Cyclones will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8th, as they will host the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 7:00 p.m.
