Men’s Soccer Explodes for Five Goals as O’Connor Earns 100th Career Victory

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 30, 2015) - On Wednesday, the Centenary College men's soccer team (5-4) got their third win in a row in dominant fashion and Head Coach Keith O'Connor recorded his 100th career victory as they the Knights of Berkley College (2-8) 5-0 with two goals coming from leading scorer sophomore Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover).

White got the Cyclones off to a fast start in the 7th minute, as there was a handball in the box, which gave him a penalty kick opportunity. White made no mistake by depositing the ball into the left side of the net giving the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead.

Centenary didn't let up as in the 19th minute, White netted his second goal of the game off a great cross from sophomore Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury), which gave the Cyclones a 2-0 advantage. Four minutes later, White was the assist man by putting a great thru-lob to Lamanna who placed a nice shot into the top corner of the net to give the Cyclones a commanding 3-0 lead, only 23 minutes into the game. The Cyclones and the Knights played even for the rest of the half, with Centenary holding a 3-0 lead at intermission

The second stanza played much like the first as senior Makenson Joseph (Haute-Feuille, Merchant Dessalines / Irvington High School) scored in the 49th minute on a quick move, which threw off the keeper before he was able to recover. As Centenary held a 4-0 lead, the Cyclones played passive for the remainder of the game with the Knights getting some opportunities that were stopped by senior Jesse Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) who made five saves in the game.

The Cyclones added a late insurance goal with only 22 seconds remaining as sophomore Bryan Mason (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) played a great thru-ball to fellow classmate Chris Flores (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) who put the ball past a Knights charging keeper to give them a 5-0 lead.

Coach O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3rd, as they will host the Cavaliers of Cabrini College at 2:00 p.m.
