White Connects on Penalty Kick to Lift Men’s Soccer to CSAC Victory over Cairn

LANGHORE, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2015)- The Centenary Cyclones (4-4) got their second win in a row and the first CSAC victory of the year as they defeated Cairn University (4-4-1) 1-0 on the heels of a penalty kick goal from sophomore Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover).

The goal from White came early in the game as the Cyclones carried much of the early possession with Centenary taking four corner kicks in the first eight minutes. On the fourth corner, junior Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) launched a ball into the box where White was fouled trying to take a header, and was giving a penalty kick. White made no mistake with his kick, and gave the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead.

From that point on, play evened out with the Cyclones carrying the tempo for most of the game. Senior Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) picked up his second shutout in a row, as he made two saves while facing eight shots on goal.

The Cyclones took 14 shots on goal with five being saved by Cairn keeper Mike Warren. The Cyclones chances came on a combine 10 corner kicks, which was a season-high for corner kicks.

After playing on the road for most of the season, the Cyclones home part of the schedule will start to pick up as they will have a four-game homestand starting with Berkeley College on Sept. 30th, which will be held at the J.E Reeves Jr. Field at 3 p.m.
