Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Highlander’s Slip Passed Women’s Soccer, 1-0

LANGHORNE, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2015)- A goal by the Highlander's Meghan Wilson in the 72nd minute helped Cairn University slip past the Centenary College women's soccer team, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Courtney Novak took a team high five shots for the Highlanders who improve to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Freshman Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) took a game-high seven shots for the Cyclones who fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC.

Centenary came out the gate as the aggressor, as they took seven unanswered shots in the 20 minutes. The Cyclones best opportunity came in the 24th minute as senior Becky D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) clinked the ball off the crossbar. Cairn's net minder Mackenzie Paugh made three saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

In the second half, Paugh prevented the Cyclones from scoring as she made four saves in the second stanza. Cairn lit up the scoreboard in the 72nd minute, as Wilson ripped a shot in pass the low post to take a 1-0 lead. Centenary attempted to tie the game, but failed to find the back of the net.

Centenary edged Cairn in shots (21-9), corner kicks (5-3) and offsides (4-3). D'Angelo and freshman Kara LaPolice (Hopewell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) both recorded four shots, while freshman Sam Bombardiere (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) posted three shots. Senior Jaclyn LaGuardia (Wyckoff, N.J. / Ramapo) and sophomore Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) both recorded one shot for Centenary.On a side note, junior Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made her collegiate debut for the Cyclones, playing the final seven minutes of the game.

Head Coach Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26th, as they travel to Gwynedd Valley, Pa. to take on the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy at 3:00 p.m.
