HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 19, 2015) – In a rematch of last years CSAC Championship game, the Centenary Cyclones (1-6) were dealt another late game loss, 2-1, by their arch-rivals the Cavaliers of Cabrini College (1-4-1) on Saturday afternoon at J.E Reeves Jr. Field.
The Cavaliers got off to a strong start as Kaitlyn Cooper scored six minutes into the first half, giving Cabrini a 1-0 lead. The Cyclones battled back, and got a few good chances towards the end of the first half, but were unable to bury the tying goal.
In the second half, it was the Cyclones who got on the board early. Freshman
Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) played a nice lob to senior
Becky D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) where she then put a perfect cross to freshman
Kara LaPolice (Hopewell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) who was able to put the ball into a wide open net to tie the game at 1-1 just three minutes.
The teams then played even with Cabrini having slightly more possessions, and with six minutes left in the game, the Cavaliers broke through. The Cyclones gave the ball away in the box, but senior
Jaclyn LaGuardia (Wyckoff, N.J. / Ramapo), who returned from injury, made a miraculous save after the ball got past sophomore keeper
Kaitlin Marold (Edison, NJ / Edison). The ball then came straight out to the Cavaliers Allie Vallen, who ripped a shot past Marold to take the lead at 2-1 in the 82
nd minute.
The Cyclones came within a crossbar of tying the game as off a free kick, Benoit got a chance after a deflection, but her shot hit the crossbar, and the Cyclones weren't able to finish on the rebound.
