Baseball Takes Two From Neumann

Aston, PA – The Centenary baseball team edged Neumann by one run in both games in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader.  With the win, the Cyclones improve to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the league, while Neumann drops to 10-4 and 5-3 (CSAC).

Centenary 1, Neumann 0
In game one, both teams were kept scoreless as the game was sent into extra innings.  In the top of the eighth, senior Ryan Caparoni stepped up to the plate and hit a double to left sending home Nick Daniele who reached on a single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Chad Frankenfield took to the mound in relief of Danny Derner and struck out the first two batters.  The Knights would threaten as they loaded the bases after a single and two walks, but Frankenfield maintained his composure and struck out the final batter to preserve the win.

Senior pitcher, Mitch Renz started for the Cyclones and threw six innings allowing just three hits and struck out three batters.  Derner earned the win for the Cyclones, while Frankenfield earned the save.

Centenary 6, Neumann 5
In game two, Centenary jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Dave Raifsnider powered a three-run homer over left field.

The Cyclones would amass a 6-0 lead in the third inning as Caparoni sent a two-run shot over the left field fence.  After clearing the bases, consecutive singles loaded the bases and Kevin Litus would cross the plate on a SAC Fly by Chris Kiesel.

Neumann would battle back as they chipped away at the lead through the next three innings to head in the seventh down by two (6-4).  To start the seventh, two leadoff walks and a sacrifice bunt put the runners in scoring position.  A single to right center would plate one run, but a foul out and a strike out would end the game as Centenary hung on for the win.

Centenary's Zach Seres earned the win after relieving Jimmy Kraivec who threw four innings allowing four runs off of five hits and four strike outs.  Derner would earn his first save of the season, while Bobby Sefick suffered the loss for the Knights.

Dave Raifsnider led the Cyclone offense going 4-for-6 on the day driving home three runs, while Kevin Litus and Ryan Caparoni added a pair of hits each.

Centenary will take on Keystone College April 10th in La Plume, PA with the first pitch at 3pm.
