Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary pitching staff threw two shutouts for the sweep of Rosemont College in today's Colonial States Athletic Conference opener. With the win, Centenary improves to 3-13 overall and 2-0 in the CSAC, while Rosemont drops to 2-14 and 2-6 in league play.
Centenary 3, Rosemont 0Centenary got on top in the first with two runs off of three hits. Sophomore
Heather Passaro started things off with a double to right-center and eventually came around to score after
Samantha Belmonte laid down a perfect bunt for the RBI. Belmonte would also score after
Carolyn Clites put the ball in play for the early 2-0 advantage.
Centenary would tack on one more run in the fourth after the Cyclones strung together three consecutive singles to score
Kylie Morgan-Polefka.
Sophomore
Katie Lauria led the offense at the plate going 2-for-2, while six other Cyclones also registered one hit. Centenary's pitcher,
Kylie Morgan-Polefka earned her first win after pitching a complete game shutout allowing just four hits and striking out five Ravens.
Raven pitcher, Nikki Maurer suffered the loss allowing three runs off of eight hits and three strike outs.
Centenary 8, Rosemont 0Centenary took control early in the game plating four runs in the first off of three hits.
Ashley Eisenstein highlighted the inning with a two-RBI single.
The Cyclones were kept scoreless until the bottom of the fifth after
Jamie Weingarten's single to center drove
Jessica Curtis home.
Heather Passaro kept the inning going with a double to center sending home
Alexis Wilson and
Sammie Darling for the 7-0 advantage.
Centenary tacked on a final run to end the game in six for the sweep over Rosemont.
Passaro went 3-for-4 driving in two RBI's, while
Ashley Eisenstein and
Carolyn Clites each collected a pair of hits for a combined four RBI's.
Centenary's
Sammie Darling threw her first complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out six.
Next, the Cyclones will head to La Plume, PA to take on Keystone College April 7
th @ 3pm.
