Langhorne, PA – The Centenary baseball took team game one of the three game series against Cairn University this afternoon by a final score of 9-3. With the win, the Cyclones are 15-14 overall and 6-10 in league play, while the Highlanders fall to 8-23 on the season and 1-12 in the CSAC.
Centenary earned a 2-0 lead in the first inning when
Joe Forcellini scored on a Highlander error followed by
Ryan Caparoni who scored off a double by
Chris Ohlweiler.
The Highlanders would take the lead in the second inning scoring three runs after capitalizing on four Cyclone errors (3-2).
Cairn would hold on to the 3-2 advantage until the seventh inning when Centenary regained the upper hand pushing two runs across to lead by one 4-3. Caparoni's RBI triple and a sacrifice fly by
Dave Raifsnider were responsible for the two runs.
Leading 4-3 heading into the ninth, Centenary took advantage of three Highlander errors to plate five runs and widen the gap and hold on for the victory.
Chris Ohweiler led the way going 3-for-4 and driving in one run, while Caparoni collected a pair of hits with one RBI.
Nick Daniele also tallied a hit with two RBI's, while John
Tierney and Forcellini each added a hit.
Nick Ortiz drove in two runs, while
Dave Raifsnider batted in one.
Centenary's
Justin Young earned the win from the mound with six innings pitched allowing three runs and striking out two.
Centenary will wrap up the regular season as they host Cairn in a doubleheader to finish the series on April 25
th beginning at noon. Prior to the game the Cyclones will honor the 2015 Senior Class for their contributions to the program.
