Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary softball team took two from Gwynedd Mercy in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader. With the pair of wins, the Cyclones improve to 12-15 overall and 11-2 in league play, while the Griffins fall to 16-10 overall and 11-7 in the CSAC.
Centenary 4, Gwynedd 3Centenary opened the scoring in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead after a hot start with back-to-back RBI-doubles from
Carolyn Clites and
Erin Walsh.Â
The Griffins would get one run back in the second but the Cyclones pushed a third run across the plate in the third to maintain the lead (3-1). A second double from Clites put her in scoring position and came around to score when
Becca Raymond doubled down the line.
The Griffins continued to chip away at the lead with a run in the fourth but once again, Centenary's Clites put the Cyclones up by two with a blast over the center field fence (4-2).Â
Gwynedd closed the two-run gap in the sixth but were unable to tie the game down the stretch as the Cyclones hung on to take game one.
Centenary's
Kylie Morgan-Polefka earned her fourth win of the season throwing a complete game giving up three runs off four hits, while striking out two Griffin batters.
Carolyn Clites led the offense at the plate going 3-for-4 driving in two runs, while
Becca Raymond added a pair of hits and an RBI.

Centenary pitcher,
Sammie Darling and the defense would keep the Griffins scoreless throughout six innings as Darling allowed just three hits in that time.
Centenary would tack on a run in the third, fourth and fifth inning for a 4-0 lead heading into the seventh.
Gwynedd got their bats going in the seventh and spoiled Darling's shutout pushing across their only run of the second game.
Jess Curtis went 3-for-3 with an RBI as Clites collected another two hits driving in one run.Â
Darling finished the day pitching a complete game for the one-hitter and her eighth win of the season.Â
Centenary returns to the field as they play host to Cedar Crest College April 19
th @ 12pm.
