Immaculata, PA – The Centenary baseball team fell to Immaculata University in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference game by a final score of, 16-9. With the loss, the Cyclones are now 13-11 overall and 5-8 in CSAC play, while the Mighty Macs improve to 14-8 on the season and 8-2 in the league.
Immaculata struck first and early in the first inning plating two runs before the Cyclones evened things up in the very next inning. Centenary's
Sean Hunter flied out to center for the sacrifice scoring
Dave Raifsnider, while
Nick Ortiz's single drove in
Kevin Litus.
The Cyclones would take the lead in the fifth after
Ryan Caparoni tallied an RBI single to score teammate
John Tierney for the 3-2 advantage.
That lead would not last long as Immaculata responded in the bottom of the fifth with four runs and another five in the sixth for a commanding 11-3 lead.
Centenary battled back from the plate scoring five runs off four hits in the seventh to get within three runs (11-8). Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Caparoni who did not disappoint as he singled up the middle driving in two runs. The Cyclones kept the bats going with RBI singles from Raifsnider and Chris Ohweiler as well as a sacrifice fly from
Nick Daniele.
Despite the big Centenary inning, Immaculata tacked on four more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to widen the gap (16-9). The Cyclones were unable to get a rally going as Immaculata walked away with the triumph.
Dave Raifsnider led the Cyclones at the plate with three hits and two RBI's, while Caparoni added two hits and drove in three runs. Freshman,
John Tierney also added a pair of hits in the loss.
Centenary's
Justin Young suffered the loss giving up five runs off six hits, while striking out five, while Immaculata's Dan Whalen earned the win allowing seven runs and also striking out five.
The Cyclones return home to face Immaculata in a doubleheader to complete the three-game series April 18
th @ 1pm.
