Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College men's basketball team is the eighth seed in the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Men's Basketball Championships and will travel to first-seeded Brooklyn College for the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 4. Tip-off at the West Quad Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
Centenary will be making their first ECAC appearance for just the second time in program history. The men's basketball team earned a bid to the ECAC tournament in the 95'-96' season. The last time Centenary and Brooklyn went up against each other was January 7
th 2008; the Bulldogs came away with an 81-77 win.
This year, Centenary is 15-12 overall. The Cyclones went 11-7 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and clinched a playoff berth to the CSAC Tournament. In the quarterfinals, the Cyclones defeated Immaculata University 72-63 advancing to the semifinals where they fell to Neumann University 57-52.
Centenary is led by senior forward
Andy Charles and freshman guard
Rashaan Spencer. The duo averages a combined 23.9 points per game, while Charles dominates the glass as Centenary's all-time leader in rebounds. Spencer leads the team in points from behind the arc with a team-best 64 three-pointers made this year. Both have earned conference honors this season as Charles made 2
nd Team All-CSAC, while Spencer was voted CSAC's Rookie of the Year.
Freshman guard,
Myles McLeod also contributes a great deal to the Cyclone offense averaging 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while senior center,
Josh Case and forward
Paul Jones average six points. Also in his final season,
Djovan Beausejour averages 5.7 ppg and 3.2 boards per game, while also shooting over 70 percent from the stripe.
Brooklyn College was tabbed as the first seed and enters tonight's game with a 22-6 overall record. The Bulldogs are coming off a 90-83 loss to Baruch College in the CUNYAC Final Round. The bulldogs are led by Egzon Gjobalaj who averages 17.9 points per game, Lorenzo Williams and Jai Kellman who both average 15 points per game.
