Hackettstown NJ –The Cyclones (1-8) were defeated by Drew University (2-7) this afternoon by a final score of 10-6.
Centenary started the game off strong, as
Michael Muff and
Kenton Gottshall scored two goals midway through the first for a 2-0 lead. However, Drew quickly responded with two consecutive goals to tie the game (2-2) heading into the second.
The Cyclones got back on top with two goals early in the second for the 4-2 advantage courtesy of
Michael Balsamo and Muff for his second of the day. The Rangers would get one back at the 6:38 mark before heading into the break with the Cyclones holding a 4-3 lead.
The Rangers would make a run for it scoring the next four goals keeping the Cyclones scoreless in the third and amassing a 7-4 lead. Centenary however, didn't give up, as they responded with two quick goals by
James Iwanicki and Muff, to bring them to within a goal (7-6) with 4:21 remaining.
Drew's Harry Rice took control of the final four minutes netting three unanswered goals for the Rangers and the victory. Rice led all scorers with six goals, while teammate Robert Hart chipped in two.
For the Cyclones,
Michael Muff scored three goals on seven shots, while
Michael Balsamo,
Kenton Gottshall, and
James Iwanicki each tallied a goal.
Centenary goalie,
Kevin Switzer made 10 stops on the day, while Drew's Teddy Sweeney recorded 12 saves.
From this point forward, it will be all CSAC action for the Cyclones starting with Marywood University. The game will be played at Marywood in Scranton, PA @ 4:00 PM on
April 8
th.
