Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College (1-7, 0-2 CSAC) men's lacrosse team were dealt a 10-2 loss courtesy of Gwynedd Mercy University (8-2, 2-0 CSAC) at this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference game.
The score was kept scoreless for the majority of the first quarter until the Griffins quickly obtained the momentum on a goal from Tommy Belmont with 3:44 remaining. Gwynedd would then strike two more times on back-to-back goals from Tony McCraw for the 3-0 advantage to end the period.
The Griffins would tack on another two goals late in the second (5-0) after McCraw and Blase Cesarone each netted a goal to bring the score to (5-0) going into halftime.
After the break, the Griffins continued to push the pace capitalizing on several turnovers to score three unanswered goals scored by Nick Guglielmi, Nico Belardo, and McCraw.
Trailing 8-0, Centenary ended the shutout with a pair of goals. At the 9:54 mark,
Michael Muff netted his 12
th goal of the season off a feed from
Trevor Krupinski. Just under two minutes later,
Trevor Krupinski fired a shot past the goalie for his 14
th goal of the season off a pass from Muff.
Unfortunately the Cyclones' rally was cut short not even a minute later, as the Griffins scored two goals only 15 seconds apart to push the lead score back up to (10-2).
Centenary goalie,
Kevin Switzer made 22 stops, while Gwynedd's John Black tallied seven saves.
Centenary will play their final non-conference game when they host Drew University at the J.E Reeves Jr. Field on Tuesday @ 4:00 PM
