Centenary Edged By SUNY-Maritime, 7-5

Hackettstown NJ –The Centenary men's lacrosse team were dealt a tough 7-5 loss at the hands of SUNY-Maritime on Saturday afternoon at the J.E Reeves Jr. Turf Field.  With the loss, the Cyclones even up their record at 1-1, while the Privateers record their first win of the season (1-0).

In a back and forth game, Maritime opened the scoring (1-0) 7:59 into the game, but Centenary's Michael Muff tied the game three minutes later netting his first of two goals on the day. Maritime would regain the lead as Chris Stickney would find the back of the net for the 1-goal advantage.  That lead would not last long as Centenary's Michael Balsamo fired the equalizer about thirty seconds later.

In the second period, Maritime would tack on two unanswered goals for a 4-2 lead heading into the third.

After the break, the Cyclones battled back with an impressive display of offense.  James Iwanicki scored his first collegiate goal to bring the Cyclones back within one with 7:31 remaining. Exactly five minutes later, Centenary's Anthony Biango sniped a shot to the top corner to even the game at four apiece.

With momentum favoring Centenary entering into the final period, freshman Michael Muff would deliver a shot into the goal off a pass from Trevor Krupinski to give Centenary their first lead of the game (5-4).

Maritime would tie the game at five with 8:53 remaining and they would also tack on back-to-back goals by Ian Danahy late in the fourth to seal the game.
Muff tallied two goals and an assist for three points, while Balsamo, Biango, and Iwanicki each netted a goal for the Cyclones.

Maritime's, Nick Pellegrino and Ian Danahy each scored two goals for the Privateers, while Daniel Ahern, Robert Lalena and Chris Stickney each registered a goal.
The Cyclones will play their first road game of the season when they travel to Muhlenberg College, in Allentown, PA, on Wednesday, @ 4:00 PM.
