Cyclones Open Season With 13-0 Shutout

Hackettstown, NJ – Trevor Krupinski and Anthony Biango combine for seven goals as the Centenary College (1-0) men's lacrosse team shutout Alvernia University (0-1) by a final score of 13-0. 

Centenary got on the board as Trevor Krupinski scored his first of four goals on the day at the 7:34 mark in the first quarter.  Four minutes later, Kenton Gottshall gave Centenary a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal. 

The Cyclones would head into the break with a four-goal advantage after John Muff and Krupinski tacked on two more goals.  Centenary's pressure defense held Alvernia to six first half shots, while Centenary tallied 19. 

After the break, the Centenary offense erupted in the third quarter netting five goals for a commanding 9-0 lead.  Nolan Gottshall started things off in the third, followed by Muff's second goal of the day. 

Junior Anthony Biango scored back-to-back goals midway through the third, while Krupinski continued his hot shooting with his third goal to end the quarter and his fourth and final tally coming at the start of the last period. 

At the 11:03 mark, Michael Balsamo put away a shot from Spencer Stachowiak, before Biango found the back of the net to put the Cyclones up 12-0 with 4:59 left to play.  Balsamo would cap off the scoring as he netted his second goal of the day on a pass from Biango.

Centenary held a 43-17 shot advantage and a 39-17 groundball advantage as they dominated both ends of the field.  Cyclone goalie, Kevin Switzer made nine saves, while seven of them came in the final two quarters. 

Krupinski led the Cyclones with four goals and one assists for five points, while Anthony Biango totaled four points with three goals and one assist.  
Nolan Gottshall picked up five groundballs and was 9-for-11 in faceoff wins, while Kenton Gottshall won 4-of-5 face-offs. 

Centenary next will host Maritime College Sat. February 28th @ 1pm.
