Jones Connects on Six Triples as Men’s Basketball Falls to Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (Nov. 21, 2015) - Junior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) connected on six three pointers as the Centenary College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to the Garnets of Swarthmore College, 80-66.

Zach Yonda totaled 34 points on 4-for-7 shooting from behind the arc, as the Garnets remain undefeated at 2-0 overall. Sophomore Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) finished with 18 points and five rebounds for the Cyclones who fall to 2-1 overall.

The Cyclones took an early 6-5 lead after back-to-back three pointer by Jones and Spencer. Swarthmore responded with a 15-3 run over the next five minutes to take a 24-9 lead with 11:00 minutes remaining in the first half.  That run proved to be the difference as Centenary was playing from behind for the rest of the game.

In the second half, the Garnets lead ballooned to 20 points before the Cyclones used a 21-9 run, capped off by five straight points from freshman Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional), to dwindle the Swarthmore lead to 55-47 with 13:15 remaining. This would be as close as the Cyclones would get as the Garnets hot shooting helped them recover and close the game with the 14 point result.

Logue finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 24th, as they will travel to Clarks Summit, Pa. to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play against the Defenders of Summit University at 7:00 p.m.
