Jones Connects on Clutch Triples to Propel Men’s Basketball to Victory over Moravian


BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Nov. 18th, 2015) - Junior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) scored seven of his 11 points in the final three minutes to help the Centenary College Men's Basketball team improve to 2-0 with a 78-72 victory over the Greyhounds of Moravian College.

Sophomore Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) posted another 20 point performance, finishing with 26 points on 11-for-16 from the free throw line. Jimmy Murray led four Greyhounds in double figures with 19 points as Moravian falls to 0-1.

The Cyclones totaled 46 of the 78 points in the paint and recorded 29 points off the bench. Senior Anthony Bailey (Florida, N.Y. / SS Seward) led the Cyclones off the bench with 10 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) totaled a career-high eight points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes off the pine.

Moravian would take a 68-64 lead with 3:47 remaining, as Murray scored five straight points. Jones prevented the Greyhounds from pulling away, as he cut the deficit to 68-67 with 2:52 remaining on a three pointer off an assist from junior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown).The Greyhounds answered with a fast break layup to take a 70-67 lead with 2:27 remaining.

Jones would even the game at 70 after connecting on his second triple of the game, off an assist from sophomore Myles McLeod (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck). After a layup by senior Deshawn Batts (Piscataway, N.J. / Pacific) gave Centenary a 72-70 lead, Spencer salted away the game from the charity stripe, going 4-for-5 in the final minute.

Duymich finished with six points, eight rebounds and four steals, while McLeod totaled six points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 21st, as they will travel to Swarthmore, Pa. to face the Garnets of Swarthmore College at 6:00 p.m.
