Vanessa McKellar (Annadale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) closed out her Centenary career with a bang as she finished with a double-double of 17 kills and 17 digs in the 3-2 loss to Summit University in the season finale on Friday evening.
Callie Kitowski and Jacklyn Simpson both recorded a double-double for the Defenders who finish the season at 4-23 and 3-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Junior
Na'imah Spells (Irvington, N.J. / Irvington) recorded a career-high 32 digs for the Cyclones who finish the season at 3-19 and 2-9 in the CSAC.
An extremely close match throughout had the Defenders edging out wins in the odd numbered sets, while the Cyclones took the victory in the even numbered sets. The difference was in the deciding set, where the Cyclones just ran out of gas and Summit recorded a .409 hitting percentage. In the first four sets, no team posted higher than a .140 attacking percentage.
Centenary and Summit combined for 176 total digs with Spells, McKellar and freshman
Zoey Woody (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick) posting double digit digs numbers. Woody just missed a triple-double as she had a 16 digs, nine assists and seven aces. For Summit, Samantha Snow was all over the floor, finishing with 26 assists, 15 digs and six aces. Freshman
Ashley Bierbaum (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) finished with a career-high 14 assists, five kills and two aces, while fellow classmate
Giani Montalvo (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) finished with four kills and two block solos.
