IMMACULATA, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2015)- Despite an early first half goal by junior
Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill), the Centenary College men's soccer team fell to Immaculata University, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Joe Lubonski made nine saves for the Mighty Macs who improve to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Marin took a game-high eight shots for the Cyclones who fall to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the CSAC.
Centenary got on the scoreboard first in the 16
th minute as senior
Abiodun Lawal (Irvington, N.J. / Irvington) headed back a ball, off a throw-in, to Marin who nailed a strike from 20 yards out to take the 1-0 lead. The story for the rest of the first half was the goalkeeping as Lubonski and senior
Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) denied numerous opportunities, as the Cyclones held the 1-0 advantage at the intermission.
In the second half, the Mighty Macs wasted no time as they evened the game at 1-1, just two minutes in. After that goal, the Cyclones increased the tempo, but Lubonski made six of his nine saves in the second stanza to prevent Centenary from scoring the go ahead goal.
After three straight shots were stopped by Lubonski, including back-to-back headers by junior
Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) , the Mighty Macs would net the game winner on a shot from 20 yards out in the 83
rd minute.
Despite the loss, Centenary out shot Immaculata 20-12 on shots, including 10-5 in shots on goal.
