Neumann Squeaks By Centenary in CSAC Play

Hackettstown, New Jersey: On Wednesday night, at John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center, Centenary College dropped a tightly contested game to Neumann University 61-56 in league play.

Centenary dropped their first game on the New Year despite Andy Charles having his best game of the season. Charles had a double-double that included 17 points (6-of-17) and 18 rebounds, six of which were offensive.

Rashaan Spencer and Djovan Beausejour also almost had double-double's in the game as Spencer nailed 14 points and eight rebounds while Beausejour had 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Neumann University also had three 10+ points players Denzel Yard netting ten points and seven rebounds. The two leading scorers for Neumann were Kevin Green who scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds while DeShawn Lowman led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds.

This game wasn't as close as shown in the final score as Neumann led by as much as 17 at one point early in the second half. Centenary though has been known throughout much of the early season as being able to rally from deficits.

Down 22-38 with 17:23 remaining in the half, Centenary came all the way back to tie the score at 46-46 with 5:06 left as Charles led the charge scoring 10 of his 17 points.

The teams traded missed baskets over the next few minutes before Kevin Green made a huge three-ball for Neumann to regain the lead (50-53).  Neumann there-after made a string of free-throws to seal the game.

The teams shot almost identically throughout the contest as Centenary finished with 32.8% (21-for-64) compared to Neumann's 33.3% (19-for-57). They both shot exactly 25% from the arch (4-for-16).

Centenary will tip-off next on the road as they will travel to play Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA on Saturday afternoon, @ 2:00 PM.
