Hackettstown, NJ - The John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center was electric on Wednesday night as the Centenary Cyclones won their second consecutive game by defeating Keystone College 86-75. Centenary now stands at 9-8 overall and 6-4 in the CSAC, while the Giants fall to 5-13 and 5-6 in league play.
The Cyclones trailed for much of the first half and were down by as much as seven with 3:26 left. However, a couple quick baskets propelled the Cyclones in front including a cross-court pass from
Zachary Duymich to
Andy Charles, which he netted at the buzzer to head into the break up by one (39-38).
Andy Charles was one of two Cyclones to record a double-double in the game with
Paul Jones getting the other. Charles was lights-out as he nailed 8-10 from the field for 22 points and 12 rebounds, five of which were on the offensive glass. Jones went 6-13 from the field for 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Josh Case and
Kyle Smith also had solid games for the Cyclones. Case shot 6-10 for15 points and four rebounds, while Smith was perfect on his three shots, two of which were from the arch for nine points.
On the other side, Keystone didn't back down with Dan Candemeres leading the game in scoring as he went 6-15 from the field for 25 points with a perfect 10-10 from the stripe. Duncan Lunsford added in 19 points, and Kelly Rashaud netted 13 points in the contest.
After trading baskets for the first 6:36 of the first half, back-to-back three-balls from
Zachary Duymich and
Andy Charles ignited the Cyclones to go on a 15-2 run which lasted until the 8:51 mark of the half. Leading by 12, Keystone closed the gap to as much as four with 4:02 remaining. Centenary quickly responded with an 11-3 run which was capped by a three-ball from
Rashaan Spencer pushing the lead back up to 12 (80-68) with just under two minutes left in regulation. Centenary held off Keystone for the remainder of the game for the 86-75 victory.
The Cyclones shot 46% from the field over Keystone's 32%. Centenary also dominated from the arch shooting 44.4% compared to Keystone's 16.7%. The key to the game in all was points off the bench. Centenary's bench lit it up with 54 points, while Keystone only registered nine.
Centenary will ride a two-game win streak into their next game at Cabrini College which will be held in Radnor, Pa on Saturday @ 4:00 PM.
