Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary women's basketball team suffered a tough loss in the final minutes courtesy of Rosemont College in tonight's CSAC game. The Cyclones drop to (2-12) overall and (1-4) in league play, while the Ravens improve to (4-9) overall and (2-4) in the CSAC.
The Cyclones struggled to score as they shot a season worst 15.4% from the field shooting 4-26 for 10 total points in the first half. Centenary trailed by 16 (26-10) heading into the break.
Centenary continued their offensive distress in the second half but battled back after
Rachel Edwards ended the drought with a three pointer at the 18:23 mark. It seemed to spark the Cyclone offense as they began to chop away at the 14 point gap (14-28).
The Cyclones found their groove as they went on a 7-1 run to get within nine (23-32) with 15:00 to go. Over the next five minutes, both teams would trade baskets as the Ravens tried to maintain their eight point lead with just under 10:00 to go.
Down 32-40, the Cyclones put together another run (13-4) to take the lead for the first time in the game as Edwards sank a three pointer with 4:20 left in regulation. In the next minutes, there would be two ties and four lead changes, but the Ravens would pull away with under a minute left to hang on for the win.
Edwards led the team with 12 points as she recorded her first career double-double in the contest by grabbing 11 rebounds.
Melissa Rabe and
Ally Fugnitti both recorded nine points while Rabe brought down eight rebounds, three of which offensive.
Liz Coyne led all scorers with a game-high 21 points notching a double-double as she added 10 rebounds. Dominique Sellers finished with 13 points and six rebounds while Kierra Smith rounded out the 10+scorers with 10 points and six rebounds.
After shooting 15.4 % in the first half, Centenary shot 41.2% in the second for an overall percentage of 30% (18-60). The Ravens held the slight edge in that department by shooting 31.1% (19-61) throughout the contest.
The Cyclones will now begin a three-game road trip which will begin in Baltimore against Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday @ 2:00 PM.
