Hackettstown NJ – On Saturday afternoon, Centenary (2-5, 1-1 CSAC) played host to the Neumann Knights (3-4, 1-1 CSAC) at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center where they were defeated by the final of 68-45 in conference play.
The Cyclones found themselves down early as the Knights came out hot shooting over 70% from three point land in the first half (8-of-11) and 57% from the field. Centenary struggled in the first half shooting 17.2% from the field putting them down 43-12 heading into the break.
In the second half, the Cyclones came together and outscored Neumann 33-25, but it was not enough to makeup up the deficit from the first half.
Sophomore forward,
Mallory George led the Cyclones as she contributed with her 3
rd double-double of the season with 10 points (3-for-11) and 11 rebounds. Junior guard,
Ally Fugnitti also had a solid performance for the Cyclones as she nailed 10 points including going 50% from the arch (2-for-4).
Kelsey Barofski (4-for-11) added in eight points and three rebounds along with
Rachel Edwards and
Heather Yaros who netted six points each in the contest.
For Neumann, Emily Lyons (4-6), Jessica Schlesman (5-6) each netted 12 points, Ericka Smith-Sowell added in 12 points herself but also 10 rebounds for a double-double. Their big performer came in Sarah Roberts as she had a game-high 19 points shooting (5-of-9) in three pointers along with six rebounds and six takeaways.
The difference in this game came from the three-ball, as Neumann shot 63.2% (12-for-19) from the arch while the Cyclones went 33.3% (4-for-12).
After splitting their first two CSAC matchups, Centenary will go on the road to tip-off against non-conference opponent, Old Westbury which will be held in two weeks @ 12:00 PM on December 20
th.
