Emory, VA – In the final seconds, the Centenary College (2-8) women's basketball team fell to Meredith College (1-5) 60-63 in the Consolation game of the Comfort Inn Holiday Tournament. 

Centenary opened the scoring with a three ball from freshman guard, Rachel Edwards and jump started the Cyclones to an early 12-5 lead by the 14:39 mark.  Sophomore forward, Melissa Rabe would add back to back jumpers to give Centenary their largest lead of the day (16-7) midway through the first half. 

The Cyclones seemed to go cold after their hot start shooting 23% on 8-of-34 from the field giving Meredith College the opportunity to close the gap and tie the game at 24 apiece with 2:35 left in the first half.  The Cyclones would head into intermission holding on to a slim 28-26 lead.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Meredith continued to increase their lead as they went on a 14-4 for their largest lead at the 12:02 mark. 

With 10:50 left in the game and Centenary facing a 10 point deficit, freshman Nicole Cartaino provided the much needed spark off the bench scoring 11 consecutive points in the paint to bring the Cyclones within three (59-56) with 1:25 to go in regulation.  In the final minute of play, good looks for Centenary did not fall their way as Meredith College hung on to walk away with the win.

Centenary shot 32% from the field on 21-of-65 shooting and 2-for-13 from behind the arc (15%).  However, as a team they were 84% from the stripe sinking 16-of-19 free throws. 

Cartaino led all scorers with a game and career high 17 points and seven boards, while Mallory George earned a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  Edwards chipped in 11 points and Rabe finished the day with six points and five rebounds. 

Next up for Centenary is their last non-conference match up against Kean University January 3^rd @ 1:00pm in Hackettstown, NJ.
