Emory, Va. – The Centenary College (2-7) women's basketball team dropped their first contest at the Comfort Inn Holiday Tournament to host, Emory & Henry College (4-5) 74-65.
In the first half, Emory & Henry jumped out to an early 7-2 lead but the Cyclones bounce back with a 12-0 run to take a 14-7 lead with 11:56 to go. Centenary managed to maintain the advantage the rest of the half with their largest lead (31-23) posted with about two minutes left.
In the second half, both teams would trade baskets as Centenary nursed a slim advantage. Midway through the second half, Emory & Henry tied the game at 51 apiece at the 9:00 minute mark after capitalizing on a Cyclone turnover. Over the next five minutes, five ties would be registered before Emory & Henry would take a 66-65 lead with 3:23 to go and never relinquish it.
Centenary's,
Mallory George tallied a game-high 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field along with eight rebounds, while
Rachel Edwards chipped in 17 points. Freshman forward,
Nicole Cartaino also added 10 points while bringing down six boards.
The Cyclones are back in action tomorrow as they face Meredith College at 2:00pm in the consolation round of the Comfort Inn Holiday Tournament.
