Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rutgers-Newark Defeats Centenary, 71-55

Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College men's basketball team lost to Rutgers – Newark in a non-conference home game, 71-55.  The Cyclones now drop to 4-5 on the year, while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-3 overall.

Rutgers-Newark took control of the game from tip-off as they sank the first basket of the game to open the scoring and amassed an 18-5 advantage midway through the half.  The Cyclones managed to get within nine with six minutes to go in the half, but RU-Newark would continue to pour it on offensively as Vik Singh who scored 15 first half points, dropped back to back three pointers to give the Scarlet Raiders their biggest lead of the day (43-23).

Rutgers-Newark shot over 60% from the field and 91 % from the stripe as they headed to the locker room with a commanding 43-25 lead over Centenary.
In the second half, the Cyclones did not give up as they began to chip away at the 20 point deficit to get within 10 after freshman guard, Rashaan Spencer, provided the much needed spark off the bench draining back-to-back three pointers with just under six minutes go.

The Cyclones however, were unable to break the 10 point gap as RU-Newark maintained their solid shooting from the free throw line in the second half shooting 16-for-18 (89%).

Spencer led the Cyclones with the a game-high 18 points, 13 of which came in the second half on 6-of-15 shooting from the field.  Senior Andy Charles netted 11 points (3-for-6 FGs) and brought down six rebounds, while senior center, Josh Case also added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

The Cyclones return to action Monday December 22nd as they host Penn State – Abington at 2:00pm.
