Madison, NJ – On Saturday afternoon, Centenary College (1-3) was defeated by Drew University (4-0) in a non-conference road game by the final score of 71-57.
The game got away from the Cyclones early after trading baskets in the opening minute, Drew quickly went on a 17-3 run which put the Cyclones behind for the remainder of the first half as they headed to the locker room down 30-18.
Centenary attempted to close the gap by going on a 7-0 run to begin the second half and get within five, however, Drew responded with a 20-5 run of their own to increase the lead gain their largest lead of the night (50-30).
The teams would continue to trade baskets for the remainder of the contest, however Drew wouldn't allow the Cyclones any opportunity at getting on a run of points to close the gap.
Sophomores,
Alexis Wilson and
Kelsey Barofski did most of the damage for Centenary as Wilson netted 11 points and Barofski totaled 10 in the contest.
Melissa Rabe added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Drew's scoring came from three of their big players. Ryan Jackson finished with 12 points (6-10) and six rebounds. Brenna Wilson came close to triple-double as she contributed 15 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Courtney Stephens led Drew with 17 points, added in five rebounds and went 11-13 in free-throws.
Centenary shot 39.1% (25-64) from the field, and 36.4% (3-11) from the arc while Drew posted 38.6% (22-57) from the field and 31.3% (5-16) from three point land. The disparity was in the free-throws, as Centenary shot 42.9% (3-7) compared to Drew's 88% (22-25).
Centenary will look get back in the win column against Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday November 25
th @ 6:00pm in Hoboken, New Jersey.
