Scranton, PA – The Centenary College (0-1) men's basketball team was defeated by Scranton University (1-0) 69-54 in the opening round of the Radisson Invitational Saturday night.
Scranton jumped out to an early lead sinking six three-pointers while Centenary started off cold from behind the arc going (0-for-7) and falling behind 25-9.
Down by 16 midway through the first half, Centenary fought back and chipped away as they went on a 15-4 run cutting the lead to five at the 3:29 mark. Scranton stopped the run and expanded their lead to 12 heading into the break.
In the second half, Scranton continued to increase the lead as they shot 47% from the field (9-for-19) and 50% from three-point land (4-for-8), while Centenary was unable to get the outside shot going as they went 16% from behind the arc (1-of-6) and 39% from the field (13-of-33).
Down by 20 midway through the second half, the Cyclones tried to spark another run cutting the lead to 15 but could not get past that mark.
Freshman
Myles McLeod (Teaneck, NJ / Teaneck) led the Cyclone offense with 17 points shooting 8-of-12 from the field to go along with 12 rebounds for his first career double-double. Junior guard
Anthony Bailey (Florida, NY / SS Seward) chipped in nine points off the bench, while
Paul Jones added eight points and six rebounds.
The Cyclones will regroup and face John Carroll University in the Consolation round tomorrow afternoon at 2:00PM.
