Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College men's soccer team clinched the #5 seed in the CSAC playoffs as they defeated Rosemont College earlier this afternoon by a score of 2-1.
Both teams came into this match with mirroring conference records of 4-4 and battling for the #4 seed in the conference standings.
Neither team held an advantage in shots in the first half, since both tallied six shots and two corner kicks.
But it was Centenary who struck early in the 2
nd minute of play as
Luis Marin (Union City, NJ / Union Hill) netted his fifth goal of season on a breakaway.
Freshman
Justin White (Minehill, NJ / Dover) followed suit as he picked up the rebound off a Marin shot that hit the post and fired it into the back of the net to put the Cyclones up 2-0 in the first half.
In the 44
th minute, Rosemont's Kaushik Dhanyamtaju put the Ravens on the board with a shot to the far post to head into the half 2-1.
Centenary controlled the remainder of the game as they tallied 13 shots and holding the Ravens to only two. Raven's Goalie Max McDonald made 10 stops on the day, while
Centenary's
Jesse Goleman made two saves in the win.
With the win, the Cyclones improve to 11-6-1 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while Rosemont drops to 5-13 overall and 4-5 in the CSAC.
The Cyclones will take to the road for the playoffs as they head to Gwynedd Valley, PA to face Gwynedd Mercy November 4
th @ 6:00PM in a CSAC quarter-finals matchup.
