Sysak's Pair of Goals Lifts Cyclones Past the Giants

Hackettstown, NJ – Samantha Sysak's (Bayonne, NJ / Holy Family Academy) pair of goals propelled the Centenary College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Keystone College in a CSAC conference game Saturday afternoon.  The Cyclones improve to 5-7-1 on the year and 4-2 in conference play while the Giants drop to 3-7-2 this fall and 1-3-2 in the CSAC.

In the first 45 minutes of play, Centenary controlled the offense with a 6-2 advantage in shots but both keepers turned away all shots as the first half would end in a scoreless tie.

Centenary turned up the offensive pressure in the second half outshooting the Giants 10-4.  In the 50th minute, Sysak put the Cyclones on the scoreboard as she beat a defender to fire a shot past the Keystone keeper Katelyn Coon for a 1-0 lead.  Becky D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley) recorded the assist on the play.

With constant pressure in the front field, a costly Keystone foul in the box granted Centenary a penalty kick in the 82nd minute.  Sysak fired the penalty kick through the pipes to increase the Cyclone lead to 2-0 and notched her ninth goal of the season.

Centenary goalie, Megan Williams (Glenside, PA / Abington) made six saves in 90 minutes of play, while Keystone goalie Coon earned seven for the Giants.
With the win, Centenary is now tied for third place in the CSAC conference standings.

Next up for the Cyclones is a trip down to Baltimore, Md to face Notre Dame on Saturday October 18th at 1:00pm.
