HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field, battling Immaculata University in a tightly contested 2-1 loss.
Prior to the match, the Cyclones honored their 10 seniors for their contributions to the men's soccer program.
Immaculata opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Brady Derkosh found the back of the net. Centenary continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half, putting three shots on goal and earning four corner kicks, but entered halftime trailing 1-0.
The Mighty Macs doubled their advantage in the 56th minute on a goal from Michael Prall. The Cyclones answered almost immediately. Just 1:33 later, Jayron Brown set up Sean Quinones, who scored his first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Centenary continued to push for the equalizer over the final 30 minutes, earning seven second-half corner kicks. The Cyclones finished the afternoon with 16 shots and held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks, while Immaculata recorded 19 shots. Gavin Veres made six saves in the complete-game effort in goal.
Quinones led the Cyclones with three shots and the team's lone goal, while William Kelleher and Tony Garcia also recorded three attempts apiece. Brown finished with the assist on Quinones' goal.
With the loss, Centenary moves to 3-7-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
