HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Centenary Men's Soccer battled through a tense matchup on Wednesday evening, pulling out a 2-1 win over Berkeley College (N.J.) behind clutch second-half scoring from Christian Trujillo and Ander Dugarte Castillo.
After a defensive struggle for most of the match, the breakthrough came in the 79th minute when Trujillo found the back of the net to put the Cyclones ahead 1-0. The lead was short-lived, however, as Berkeley answered just 40 seconds later with an equalizer, stunning the Centenary defense and quickly shifting momentum.
But the Cyclones regrouped and delivered the decisive moment late. In the 86th minute, Sean Quinones set up Dugarte with a brilliant assist, and the forward buried his chance to restore the lead and ultimately secure the win for Centenary.
The victory marks another hard-fought result for the Cyclones, who showed grit and composure down the stretch to protect their late lead.
Centenary will look to carry that momentum into their next match as the begin conference play this Saturday versus Immaculata University, home, at 3pm.
