RADNOR, Pa. – Senior
Scott Ducey broke the school single-season pitching appearances record as the Centenary University baseball team closed out its 2022 season with a pair of losses to Cabrini University in Atlantic East action.
Ducey got in both games on Sunday which gave him 21 appearances on the season. That broke
Chris Mattson's (2006) mark of 20.
Brandon Smith had a double and two RBIs for the Cyclones in game-one but it was not enough as Cabrini claimed the 8-3 win. The Cavaliers used a big offensive output to secure a 16-6 win in game-two.
Game One Recap (Cabrini Won 8-3):
Centenary opened up an early lead in this one as
Jake Keenan hit his first career home run in the second inning.
Cabrini scored two runs in the bottom of the second and took a 2-1 edge.
The Cyclones went back on top in the third as Smith's double to center plated
Nicholas Grifone and
Paul Links. That gave the visitors a 3-2 lead in the game.
The Cavaliers used a two-run home run from
Zack Brook in the bottom of the third to take the lead back, 4-3.
Cabrini tacked on four more runs to secure the 8-3 victory.
Dom Marotta got the win as he went 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on one hit.
Zach Gehman took the loss for the Cyclones as he surrendered seven runs on four hits in three innings.
Brook led Cabrini with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Smith had a hit and two RBIs for the Cyclones while Grifone contributed a hit and a run scored. Keenan had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
Game Two Recap (Cabrini Won 16-6):
Cabrini took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first in game two.
Centenary got on the board in the top of the second.
Mike Roman reached via a one-out walk and came around to score on Links' third home run of the season.
The Cyclones made it a 3-1 game in the third as
Miron Miller's double to right scored
Chase Johnson.
Cabrini scored the next 11 runs in the game and took a 12-3 lead.
Centenary got back on the board in the seventh as Miller's second double of the day scored Johnson and
Zach Revuelta.
Cabrini tallied the next four runs of the game and extended its lead to 16-5.
The Cyclones scored one more run in the ninth as
Kevin Zaccareo Jr.'s single scored Johnson.
Mike Valerio earned the win for Cabrini as he gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings of action.
Aidan Hixenbaugh took the loss as he surrendered five runs on seven hits in three innings. Ducey broke the appearances mark when he entered the game in the eighth inning.
Brook had three hits, three runs scored and six RBIs for Cabrini.
Miller had two hits and three RBIs for the Cyclones while Links added two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Johnson finished with two hits and three runs scored.
The game marked the final appearances for graduate student
Jon Fleck and seniors
Anthony Ranaudo, Ducey, Grifone,
Brian Rapillo and
Chris Hess.
