Softball Falls to No. 1 Marywood in Atlantic East Playoff Action

SCRANTON, Pa. Courtney Deloughery and Maggie Lenahan each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI to lead the No. 6 Centenary University softball team in a hard-fought 9-3 loss to No. 1 Marywood University in Atlantic East Tournament pod play on Saturday morning.

The Cyclones and Pacers traded runs in the first inning of this contest. Toni Cacopardo had the early RBI for the Cyclones as she plated Deloughery.

Marywood jumped out to a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the bottom half of that frame. Lenahan drove in Chloe Wright with her single up the middle.

Marywood scored six runs in the third through sixth innings combined and took a 9-2 lead in the game. Lindsey Jason had a two-run single in that stretch while Kristie Epler had an RBI and a run scored.

Centenary put one more run on the board in the bottom of the seventh as Deloughery's single through the right side allowed Lenahan to score from second.

Marywood claimed the 9-3 win.

Mara Hamm earned the win for the Pacers as she went seven innings and gave up three runs on nine hits. Roxana Gonzalez took the loss as she went 5.1 innings and gave up seven runs, three of which were earned on nine hits.

Jason had two hits and two RBIs for Marywood while Jessica Hanley contributed three hits and two runs scored.

In addition to the two hits apiece from Deloughery and Lenahan, the Cyclones got two hits and a run scored from Wright.

The game marked the final contest in the careers of Deloughery, Gonzalez, Janaya Gaetan, Savannah Hettman and Sandra Cosenzo.
