Men's Lacrosse Honors Seniors Before Regular Season Finale

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Jason Toledo's second goal of the day tied the game at 4-4 late in the third period but Cairn University scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to secure a 6-4 victory over the Centenary University men's lacrosse team on Monday afternoon.

The Cyclones honored seniors Yousef Fahmi, Sean Menjivar and Christopher Festa prior to the game for their contributions to the program.

Cairn scored the only two goals of the first period and grabbed the early lead in the contest. Jonathan Balsamo had one of the goals for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones answered with a pair of man-up goals in the second period and tied the game up. Ronan Bova struck for his ninth of the season while Toledo tallied his eighth. Menjivar had the assist on both Centenary goals.

The two sides went into the half knotted at 2-2.

Cairn scored the first two goals of the third period and took a 4-2 lead.

Centenary once again had the answer as the Cyclones scored a pair of goals in the final two and a half minutes of the third period. The home team's tallies were separated by just 1:03 as Ben Hoban scored his third of the season while Toledo netted his second of the day.

Cairn scored the only two goals of the fourth period and secured a 6-4 win over the Cyclones.

Nico Cione made 13 saves to earn the win in goal for the Highlanders. Travis Austin made 10 saves, his fourth game this season with 10 or more saves, in the loss for the Cyclones.

Balsamo led Cairn with three goals while Collin Chase had five caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Toledo had two goals and two ground balls for the Cyclones while Menjivar had two assists. Bova contributed a goal and nine ground balls while AJ Puerto won eight faceoffs.

Festa had five caused turnovers on the day. That gives him 58 for his career which ranks fourth in career history at Centenary.

The game with the Highlanders concludes the 2022 season for the Cyclones.
