HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. –
Ashley D'Allesandro gave the No. 4 Centenary University women's soccer team an early lead but a big second half lifted No. 5 Marymount University to a 5-1 win in the first round of the Atlantic East Tournament.
The two teams went back-and-forth at the start of the game as both teams looked to find their rhythm.
Centenary got on the board at the 28:26 mark. The ball was put into play on a corner kick by the home team. Marymount keeper
Grace Needham got her hands on the initial cross but couldn't hold on to it and D'Allesandro was able to knock the loose ball home for a 1-0 advantage.
Both teams had their chances over the remainder of the first half, but neither was able to connect. Centenary carried the 1-0 lead into the break.
The Saints came out applying the pressure early in the second half and connected for the equalizer at 53:09.
Eliza Diggs scored off a pass from
Isabelle Davis, which tied the game at 1-1.
That was the first of three tallies by Diggs in the second 45 minutes of action. Diggs' hat trick coupled with a pair of
Laney Placido goals secured a 5-1 victory for Marymount.
Needham finished with two saves in the win for Marymount.
Chelsea Estacio made seven saves for the Cyclones.
The game marked the final contests in the careers of Estacio,
Brelyn Cusano and
Jackie Epp.
