Softball Falls in Doubleheader at St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Jessica Hewitt had two hits in each game but the Centenary University softball team fell to St. Elizabeth University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon.

Game one saw the Eagles score five early runs and hold off the Cyclones for a 5-2 victory. Centenary held a 2-0 lead in game two before St. Elizabeth rallied for the 7-2 win.

Game One Recap (Eagles Won 5-2): After a scoreless first, St. Elizabeth got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Teya Carr.

The Eagles put four runs on the board in the bottom of the third and increased their advantage to 5-0. Kathryn Harringan had an RBI double to highlight the offensive output in the frame.

The Cyclones finally broke through in the fourth as Hewitt's two-out single to center scored Chloe Wright and Toni Cacopardo.

Centenary had one more chance in the top of the sixth as the Cyclones got back-to-back two-out singles from Jenna Glinko and Wright but could not push anything across.

St. Elizabeth eventually claimed the 5-2 victory.

Alyssa Hampton earned the win in the circle as she allowed two unearned runs on six hits. Roxana Gonzalez took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Harrigan led St. Elizabeth at the plate as she was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Hewitt had two hits and two RBIs for the Cyclones.

Game Two Recap (Eagles Won 7-2): The Cyclones got on the board first in game two. Dara Murphy ripped a double to left center that scored Sandra Cosenzo in the top of the third.

Centenary increased its lead to 2-0 on Maggie Lenahan's RBI double that scored Hewitt in the fourth.

St. Elizabeth scored two runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth to battle back for the 7-2 win. Jennifer Tinger had an RBI single in the fifth inning and later scored. Amanda Lopez's two-run single highlighted the sixth inning of action for the Eagles.

Hampton picked up her second win of the day for the Eagles after giving up two runs on nine hits. Julia Campen suffered the loss after giving up four runs, two of which were earned on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Tinger was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Eagles.

Hewitt had two hits and a run scored while Meghan Hughes added three base knocks.

The Cyclones are off until Saturday, May 1 when they wrap up the regular season by hosting Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
