McKenzie Leads Women's Basketball In Loss to Ramapo

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A strong first half lifted Ramapo College to an 86-53 win over the Centenary University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Jessica McKenzie led the Cyclones with 10 points and eight rebounds on the afternoon.

Ramapo quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead and pushed its advantage to 9-2 on an Olivia Johnstone three-pointer at 7:16.

Back-to-back buckets from junior Carmen Escano and sophomore Salma Eddahiri pulled the Cyclones to within five, 12-7 with 3:34 to go in the period.

The two teams traded baskets and Ramapo took a 14-9 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Centenary scored seven of the first 10 points in the second period and cut the Ramapo lead to one, 17-16 with 7:53 showing on the clock. Senior Taylor Bossert had a three-pointer during that stretch.

Ramapo responded with a 15-0 run of its own and took a 30-16 lead with 4:04 to go in the period.

The two teams continued to battle as Ramapo took a 40-20 lead at the break.

Ramapo shot 42.1% from the field in the third period and extended its lead to 63-34 with 10 minutes to play in the game.

Centenary got a combined 12 points from seniors Molly Collins and Danika Brandt in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Ramapo claimed the 86-53 win.

Centenary shot 32.7% from the field in the game and knocked down 14-of-19 chances from the foul line. Ramapo shot 43.3% from the field and was aided by 10 made three-pointers. Ramapo had a 44-39 edge in the rebounding battle.

McKenzie added a pair of blocks to go with her 10 points and eight rebounds for the Cyclones. Collins and Bossert each contributed nine points while Bossert added seven rebounds.

Bridget Cahill led Ramapo with 26 points and four rebounds.

Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 16 when it hosts Cairn at 7 p.m.
