HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – With the 2021 regular season in the rear view window, the Centenary University men's soccer turns its attention to Atlantic East Conference Tournament.
The Cyclones, who earned the number five seed in their first season in the Atlantic East, will travel to number four Marymount on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1:15 p.m.
Centenary is making an appearance in the conference tournament for the ninth straight year (2012-2019 in Colonial States Athletic Conference – CSAC). The Cyclones have a pair of CSAC Championships (2013 and 2016) to their credit.
Centenary and Marymount met earlier this season with the Cyclones claiming a 1-0 road win. Senior
Eric Nugent delivered the game-winning goal in the first half of that contest while junior
Andrew Tarkazikis came up big in goal.
Seniors
Nik Polizos,
Besnik Hadzovic and
Kenneth Pinedo have all scored two goals this season for the Cyclones. Freshman
Matt Paterno has a goal and a team-high five assists for the Cyclones. Tarkazikis, who has been named the Atlantic East Defensive Player of the Week three times this year, enters the tournament with a 2.18 goals against average and a .760 save percentage.
Marymount is 8-8-2 overall and has lost two of three entering the tournament.
Leonardo Torres paces the Saints offense with 15 goals and seven assists for 37 points.
Derek Rivera has added five goals and five assists for 15 points.
Ronald Clark and
Brian Cruz have split the majority of the time in goal for Marymount. Clark has a 2.48 goals against average and a .571 save percentage while Cruz has a 1.75 goals against average and a .538 save percentage.
The winner of Saturday's contest will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
