MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior
Juli Wright recorded her 100th career hit while helping the Centenary University softball team to a split of its final two games at the Fast Pitch Spring Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Thursday.
Wright had a pair of hits, including the 100th of her career, to lead the Cyclones to a 4-1 win over Cazenovia in the first game of the day. In game two against Penn State Abington, the Cyclones rallied from a 6-0 deficit to force extra innings but were unable to complete the full comeback and lost 9-6 in eight innings.

Lauren Kelleher got Cazenovia on the board in the first inning with a two-out RBI double to left center.
Centenary answered in the bottom of the second inning. Junior
Courtney Deloughery reached on an error to start the inning. Wright followed with a base hit to first, the 100th of her career, to put runners on first and third. After Cazenovia got the first two outs of the inning, senior
Justine Stefura ripped a double to left that scored both runners for a 2-1 Centenary lead.
The Cyclones maintained that 2-1 advantage until the bottom of the fourth as they were able to add to their advantage. The first two Centenary batters reached via a single and an error. Wright then connected on a single through the right side that gave the Cyclones a 4-1 lead.
Senior
Jessica Hewitt set the Wildcats down in the fifth and sixth innings. She then gave way to junior
Samantha Gabriele for the seventh. Gabriele set Cazenovia down in order to secure the 4-1 win.
Hewitt picked up her fifth win of the season while surrendering one run on five hits in six innings of work. She also picked up four strikeouts. Gabriele secured the save with a scoreless seventh inning. Kelleher took the loss for Cazenovia after giving up four runs on eight hits.
Wright led the Cyclones with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored while freshman
Maggie Lenahan had two hits and a run scored. Deloughery scored a pair of runs in the game.
Kelleher had three hits for Cazenovia.
PSU Abington 9, Centenary 6 (8 innings) Recap
PSU Abington jumped out to the early lead in this one with a pair of runs in the top of the first.
Akia Marshall had an RBI double and
Jenna Gorman added an RBI single.
The Nittany Lions added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Gorman had an RBI triple and scored on
Gabby Gaskin's base knock.
PSU Abington extended its lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
Centenary began its comeback push in the bottom of the fifth as junior
Meghan Hughes led off with a triple and crossed the plate on Wright's RBI groundout.
The Cyclones put together a big bottom of the sixth inning and pulled to within one, 6-5. After loading the bases with one out, Hughes ripped a double to left that scored all three runners. She later scored as Wright stole second and Hughes went home on the throw.
After keeping PSU Abington off the board in the top of the seventh, the Cyclones made the most of their last chance at-bat.
Junior
Tessa Ferentinos led off and reached on an error. She was sacrificed to third and scored on freshman
Jenna Glinko's RBI groundout. That tied the game at 6-6 and forced the two teams to extra innings.
PSU Abington scored three times in the top of the eighth for the 9-6 lead. The big blow came off the bat of Marshall, who had an RBI double and later scored.
Centenary was unable to get anything going in the bottom of the eighth and PSU Abington claimed the win.
Stephanie Andreoli picked up the win in the circle as she threw a complete game. Hewitt suffered her first loss of the season as she gave up three runs in one inning of relief work.
Hughes had three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Cyclones at the plate. Deloughery and Lenahan each had a hit and a run scored.
Gorman led PSU Abington as she went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
