HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore
Paul Links had three hits and three RBIs in game one to lead the Centenary University baseball team in a doubleheader against Norwich University on Saturday at Our Diamond of Dreams.
Norwich rallied from a 7-4 deficit for an 8-7 win in eight innings in game one. The Cadets pounded out 11 hits for a 12-2 win in game two.
Game One Recap:
Norwich jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with two runs in the second and two more in the third inning. Centenary's run in that stretch came as Links scored on a wild pitch.
The Cyclones battled back to take a 5-4 lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. After the first two batters reached, sophomore
Christopher Gass stroked a single to left that scored senior
Cole Fratesi. Centenary loaded the bases on a walk to sophomore
Brandon Smith and Links followed with a double to center that plated two. Norwich got the second out of the inning, but Smith scored on the play for the lead.
The Cyclones pushed their lead to 7-4 as Smith singled home senior
Jon Fleck and Links drove an RBI triple to center to score Smith.
Norwich tied the game at 7-7 with three runs in the top of the seventh. The big blow in that inning came off the bat of
Jacob Parizo's who had a two-run single.
Centenary had three runners reach but were unable to get one across in the bottom of the seventh.
In the top of the eighth,
Brendon Profita had an RBI single to center which plated the eventual winning run.
Robert Slocum earned the win in relief for Norwich as he gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings of relief work. Sophomore
Anthony Vassallo took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up one run on two hits.
Links had three hits and three RBIs for the Cyclones while Fleck and Smith each had two hits and two runs scored.
Parizo had three RBIs for Norwich.
Game Two Recap:
The Cyclones took a 2-1 lead through three innings in game two. Smith had an RBI triple and later crossed the plate on an error by the Cadets.
Norwich scored 11 runs in the final four innings en route to the 12-2 win.
Nate Gehringer had a pair of RBIS for the Cadets in that stretch.
Tanner Raymond earned the win on the mound after giving up two runs on six hits in six innings. Sophomore
Jared Miller took the loss after giving up five runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Gass and junior
Nicholas Grifone each had two hits for the Cyclones.
Gehringer had two hits and two RBIs for Norwich.
The Cyclones are back in action on Friday, March 6 when they begin a weekend series with SUNY Cobleskill.
