Cairn Slips Past Women's Soccer in CSAC Semifinals

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Chelsea Estacio made nine saves but it was not enough as the No. 2 Centenary University women's soccer team fell to No. 3 Cairn University by a 2-0 margin in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

Cairn came out firing as Estacio was forced to make five saves in the first 25 minutes of the game.

The Cyclones forced Cairn goalkeeper Krystin Jarvis to make two saves in the first period.

The two teams went into the half tied at 0-0 as the two teams combined for 13 shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

Cairn broke free at the 52:29 mark as Victoria Ruitto took a free kick for the Highlanders. The deep kick sailed just over the hands of Estacio and into the net as Cairn took a 1-0 lead in the game.

The two teams continued to battle as Centenary got off a pair of shots that Jarvis was able to save. Senior Chloe Christopher was credited with one of the shots while junior Gabby Hadzovic had the other one.

Cairn added on a goal just before time expired as Lauren Costa scored at 89:19. That gave the Highlanders the 2-0 victory.

Jarvis finished with four saves to earn the win in goal for the Highlanders. For Estacio it was the sixth time this season she made nine or more saves in a game.

The contest marked the final game in the careers of the eight Cyclone seniors – Christopher, Victoria Speakman, Raeanna Cope, Stephanie Williams, Haley Hobbs, Summer Hughes-Fissel, Justine Stefura and Brittany Gray.
