HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University softball team recognized seniors
Sammie Darling,
Carolyn Clites,
Raychel Piserchia and
Ashley Eisenstein as part of the Cyclones' doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson Florham on Sunday afternoon.
The Devils took game one by a 6-2 score and finished off the day with a 6-1 victory in game two.
Game One Recap (FDU Florham Won 6-2)
FDU Florham got on the board in the bottom of the third as
Gabby Young led off with a single and stole second. She came around to score as
Taylor Torre reached on an error.
The Devils added to their lead to two runs in the top of the fifth inning. A double steal allowed
Taylor Tobey to score before
Courtney Rohde had an RBI single.
The Cyclones got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth as Clites had a two out single and scored on sophomore
Jessica Hewitt's double.
FDU Florham pushed its lead to 4-1 with a run in the top of the sixth.
An RBI triple from
Rebecca DeCarlo and an RBI single from Rohde gave the visitors a 6-1 advantage in the top of the seventh.
Sophomore
Justine Stefura led off the seventh with a double and scored on Clites' single up the middle. However that was all the Cyclones could get as FDU Florham earned the 6-2 win.
Kaleigh Oplinger earned the win in the circle after allowing just two runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. Darling tossed a complete game effort for the Cyclones as she gave up six runs on 15 hits.
Rohde had two hits and two RBIs for the Devils while Young and Torre each had two hits and two runs scored.
Clites turned in a three hit performance with a run scored and an RBI while Hewitt and sophomore
Imani Lugo each had two hits.
Game Two Recap (FDU Florham Won 6-1)
FDU Florham struck first in game two with a pair of runs in the top of the second.
Frannie Jarin had an RBI groundout and
Tara Morash had an RBI single in the frame.
Centenary got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman
Suley Perez singled up the middle and drove in sophomore
Juli Wright.
FDU Florham extended its lead to 3-1 on Rohde's RBI single in the top of the fifth.
The Devils tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh and secured the 6-1 victory.
Megan Zaccario earned the win for the Devils as she allowed just one run on three hits in four innings of work.
Linda Rizzo picked up the save after going three innings and giving up just three hits. Hewitt suffered the loss for Centenary after giving up six runs on 10 hits in seven innings.
Torre had two hits and two runs scored for the Deviles while Rohde picked up two more hits and two RBIs.
Six Cyclones recorded a hit in game two as Wright had a hit and the run scored while Perez contributed a hit and the RBI.
The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, April 25 when they host Cairn at 3 p.m.
