Big Innings Lead Centenary to a Doubleheader Sweep of Norwich

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – A big offensive inning in both games lifted the Centenary University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Norwich University in the Cyclones' season opener on Saturday. Centenary used a six-run fourth inning to secure an 8-3 win in game one. An 11-run fifth inning game two led to a 17-7 victory.

Game One Recap (8-3 Centenary victory)
In game one, Norwich struck first  with a run in the top of the third inning. The Cadets plated their run off a throwing error by the Cyclones.

Centenary responded in the bottom half of that frame. Back-to-back doubles from senior Tim Maxwell and sophomore Jon Fleck resulted in a pair of runs for the Cyclones.

Centenary was not done yet, as it plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Maxwell and Fleck each had a double that drove in a pair of runs. The big highlight of the inning came as junior Ryan Jasiecki drilled a ball over the left center fence. That two-run shot was the Cyclones' first home run of the year.

Norwich added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh as Brady Doherty hit a two-run home run to right field.

Junior Stephen Fedak earned the win for the Cyclones. He allowed just one unearned run in four innings of work and struck out three. Jake Ryan took the loss for Norwich after giving up two runs on six hits in three innings.

Maxwell went 3-for-4 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored while Fleck was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Doherty led Norwich with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.
