Men's Basketball Falls in Exhibition Contest at UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman Divine Anderson scored a team-high 13 points as the Centenary University men's basketball team fell at Division I UMBC, 98-48 in exhibition action Monday afternoon.

The Cyclones, who were playing their third game in three days, faced the Retrievers for the second straight year. The game counts in the season stats for UMBC but the stats don't count for the Cyclones as Division III teams are allowed one exhibition game against a Division I school.

UMBC had the hot shooting hand in the game as the Retrievers posted a 62.7 field goal percentage in the game and hit 13 three-pointers. Centenary was held to a 27.8 field goal percentage in the contest and made six triples.

Anderson scored nine of his 13 in the first half for the Cyclones. Sophomore Chris LaBelle added nine points and five rebounds while junior Pablo Vasquez led the Cyclones on the boards with six rebounds while adding four points. Nine of the 11 Centenary players who appeared in the game scored at least two points.

Brandon Horvath came off the bench to lead UMBC with 22 points and seven rebounds.

The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they resume Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play by traveling to Wilson for a 3 p.m. game.
