Colt Made Eight Saves For Women's Soccer Against Messiah

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman Rachel Colt made eight saves to lead the Centenary University women's soccer team against Messiah College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday morning.

The Cyclones, who were making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2010, allowed a goal in each half to the Falcons, who were ranked second in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Colt made a pair of early saves for the Cyclones.

Messiah broke through at 23 minutes as Brooke Firestone scored off a pass from Sunny Gelnovatch.

Colt made four more stops before the half to keep the Cyclones to within one at the break.

Messiah made it a 2-0 game as Megan Mansfield scored at the 64:46 mark.

Colt recorded a pair of second half stops and the Centenary defense registered a team save but the Cyclones were unable to break through. The Falcons claimed the 2-0 win to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Sarah Yunez did not make a save while earning the win in goal for Messiah. Colt finished with eight saves in the loss for the Cyclones. It was the eighth time this season she has made five or more saves in a contest.

The contest brings to a close the careers of seniors Amanda Benoit, Kara LaPolice, Jess Petty, Kristin Karszen, Sandy Sosa and Sam Bombardiere.
