ASTON, Pa. (May, 7, 2017)- Senior
Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) went 4-for-7 with two homeruns, four RBI's and four runs scored as the Centenary University baseball team closed the 2017 season with a doubleheader loss to Neumann University on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights finish their regular season at 20-16 overall and 14-7 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Cyclones end their season at 5-25 overall and 4-17 in the CSAC.
GAME 1 Neumann 8, Centenary 7
Junior
Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while fellow classmate
John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) and Daniele each recorded two hits apiece as the Cyclones gave away an early 7-0 to lose by one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Centenary totaled seven runs on seven hits in the first four innings of the contest. The Clones notched four runs on four hits, including RBI's from Sensale, junior
Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) and sophomore
Casey Brown (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area). Centenary led 4-0 entering the bottom of the first. Daniele tallied his first homerun of the afternoon with a solo shot in the second. Centenary increased their lead to 6-0 when Sensale tripled to center field and then scored on a fielding error by the Neumann shortstop. The Cyclones added another run in the fourth and would maintain the lead into the sixth.
In the sixth, Neumann rallied with six runs on four hits including a three run RBI double and a two run homered that shaved Centenary's lead down to 7-6 entering the seventh.
The Knights continued their momentum into seventh where they collected the game-tying run and the walk off game-winning run on RBI singles.
Josh Cruz got the decision for Neumann, while senior
Ryan St. John (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) took the loss for Centenary.
GAME 2: Neumann 12, Centenary 9
Daniele went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and two runs scored, while freshman
Jon Fleck (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI's as the Cyclones let another early lead slip away before losing the game in late innings.
The Cyclones took a 5-0 lead into the fourth, after Daniele and Fleck both smacked two run homers in the first and third innings, respectively. Sensale drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Daniele, who reached on a walk and then advanced to third on a stolen base.
Neumann rallied with four runs on three hits in the bottom half of the third to cut Centenary's lead to 5-4. The Clones stretched their lead to 7-4 in the fourth two runs on one hit, including an RBI single from Sensale that drove in junior

The Knights took their first lead of the contest in the fourth with five runs on three hits, including a grandslam that propelled Neumann in front 9-7. The Knights held the two run lead into the sixth, when the Cyclones evened the game at 9-9 with an RBI single from Daniele and an RBI sacrifice fly from sophomore
Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury). Â Neumann answered with another three runs in the bottom half of the sixth on back-to-back RBI's that gave the Knights a 12-9 advantage. Neumann would hold on to the lead as the Cyclones went 1-2-3 in the final innings. Â Â
