Ashley Eisenstein (Freehold, N.J. / Freehold Township) recorded two hits as the Centenary University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to DeSales University on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 13-23 overall, while the Cyclones fall to 13-19.
GAME 1: DeSales 4, Centenary 0
Sophomore
Amanda Fox (Unionville, Conn. / Farmington) and freshman
Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge) each recorded a hit as the Bulldogs shutout the Cyclones in game one. DSU only allowed two hits and five runs on base as Head Coach
Rachel Turoscy collected her 300
th career victory on the baselines for DeSales.
The game remained scoreless into the fifth, when the Bulldogs collected two runs on an RBI single to center and an RBI sacrifice fly to left. DSU added two insurance runs in the sixth with RBI singles from
McCann and
Panconi.
Junior
Sammie Darling (Succasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) struck out two batters and fell to 7-9 overall. Andrea Artesani fanned five and improved to 6-8 overall.
GAME 2: DeSales 18, Centenary 0 (5 Inn.)
Eisenstein collected two hits, while Darling tallied one hit as the Cyclones scattered three hits over five innings and were also shutout in game two. DSU scored 18 runs on 15 hits, including posting six runs in the first and seven runs in the fourth.
Centenary's best chance to score came in the third after senior
Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) led off with a walk, Eisenstein singled through the left side to advance Wilson to third. The Bulldogs held strong by striking out the final batter of the inning to keep their shutout intact.
Junior
Abbie Kay (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) made just her second appearance of the season in a relief role for Darling. Kay tossed the final two innings of the loss. Â
